Eric MacKenzie and Patrick Johnston like the Team Europe concept. The World Cup’s format has mostly worked – but there’s still a competitiveness problem at the top end.

So what could be done? We spoke a bit about the lack of zip last week, but there was plenty of buzz about Canada vs. Russia in the semis. Now others are writing about the problem.

Also, hot take: Jordan Subban is hurt mostly by his name. We wouldn’t be talking about his demotion were he not a Subban.
